DECONSTRUCTING COMICS

Recommended by: Chris
Content: Podcast
Genre:  Comics

It’s just as it sounds. Unlike so many fancasts, Tim and his crew choose to focus on the minutia of comics and those they choose are done so by no criteria but their own whims.  It’s a good addition to comic podcast rotation when you begin find redundancy in the subject matter among other creators.

NPR: WAIT WAIT… DON’T TELL ME!

Recommended by: Matt
Content: Podcast
Genre: Arts & Culture

NPR’s weekly news-skewering show. Comedians and listeners try to remember what happened in the world last week, and are not afraid to make up what they can’t recall. Hysterical stuff, always good background on those long, inking-filled Saturdays.

NPR: LIVE CONCERTS FROM ALL SONGS CONSIDERED

SLATE POLITICAL GABFEST

Recommended by: Matt
Content: Podcast
Genre: Politics & Culture

John Dickerson, Slate’s chief political correspondent; Emily Bazelon; and David Plotz, Slate editor; talk smartly about editing politics, reporting on politics, and lawyerin’. Current events are dissected in the spirit of a bunch of reporters at the bar after hours. One of the best out there.

SModcast

Recommended by: Matt
Content: Podcast
Genre: Arts & Culture… more or less

Take Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier, and an obscure Blues Brothers reference, and you have SModcast. Say what you will about his filmmaking chops (he won’t stop you if he hasn’t already), but Smith and friends can kick back like king raconteurs of the raunchy. Sometimes irreverant, sometimes fascinating, sometimes about how, in high school, a friend of his slept with his girlfriend’s mom. It’s got a great background soundtrack.
